ABOUT THE FARM:
Lakeview Hill Farm is a certified organic produce farm in Traverse City, MI that specializes in greenhouse and hoophouse production. The farm supplies high quality vegetables to Traverse City and the surrounding area. The farm is committed to renewable energy, relying on 100% on-farm solar-powered electricity and utilizing a high efficiency gasification wood boiler to heat the farm and greenhouses. The small, diversified farm is operating in four 34 x148’ greenhouses, four caterpillar tunnels, and two acres of field production. The farm has year-round production of baby leaf greens, microgreens, and shoots, along with early season heirloom tomatoes and cucumbers.
We are now hiring part-time or full-time crew members to help with deliveries, washpack, farmers market, harvesting, and weeding. Crew members will gain experience of the production cycle on the farm and take part in group responsibilities and individual tasks.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Effectively and efficiently carry out day to day operations of the farm
Work directly with the farm owner, farm leads, and other crew members
Contribute on many aspects of the farm including: greenhouse work, cultivating, harvesting, weeding, trellising, washing, packing, and deliveries
Work the farmers markets on Saturdays and help with rotating chores.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Preferred 1 season of experience on another production farm or other applicable work experience
Ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment
Interest in local, sustainable agriculture and farming practices
Must be a good listener and take direction well
Ability to work long hours in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently while staying motivated
Ability to work well on a team
Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform repetitive physical tasks in all types of weather conditions. (heat, rain, snow, etc.)
Must be organized and show attention to detail
Expected to arrive at work on time with a good attitude
Must be self-motivated and interested in learning new farming methods
Quality, speed, and efficiency are important
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
-Part-time or Full-time (Tues-Sat schedule is ideal)
-There may be potential for year-round work and growth into Lead roles based on the current needs of the farm.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
-$100 Gear stipend (Reimbursement at end of season)
